Blizzard has unveiled Talebound, a new PvE action-RPG mode for World of Warcraft: Midnight. It will arrive with the Echoes of the Worldcore update, identified on Blizzard’s roadmap as patch 12.1.7. Players can enter alone or with friends and fight through stories filled with enemies, bosses, puzzles, treasure and relics.

Every run begins and ends in Quillgrave, an unsettling village that acts as the player’s safe haven. Several residents help prepare the next attempt: the Arcanist provides potions and flasks, the Scribe develops talents and abilities, the Outfitter improves basic combat power, and the Antiquarian offers passive bonuses that can change how a story is approached.

Talebound uses three special classes rather than a player’s normal WoW specialization. The Slayer mixes sword attacks with a gun, the Inquisitor uses holy fire, and the Witch fights with poison, lightning, spiders, thorns and ravens. All three can double jump, dodge and guard, making movement and positioning central to combat.

Four stories are planned for launch: Darkhaven, Greenthistle Wood, Greywake’s Expedition and Grove of the Night Court. Each has its own setting and bosses, ranging from witches and giants to deep-sea horrors and nightmare royalty. Blizzard says repeated runs will reward cosmetic items for the player’s main Midnight account.

An early Talebound preview is planned for the PTR in October. The mode, its three classes, four launch stories and account-wide cosmetic rewards are confirmed; Blizzard has not yet announced the exact release date for patch 12.1.7 or explained the full progression and reward lists.
