Illidan Stormrage entered history as a sorcerer, warrior, and relentless breaker of taboos. During the War of the Ancients, his pursuit of power looked like betrayal. He infiltrated the Legion, accepted magical sight from Sargeras, and acted in ways even his allies could not understand.

After the Well of Eternity was destroyed, Illidan created a new well with water he had preserved. He was imprisoned for ten thousand years. Released during the Third War, he consumed the power of the Skull of Gul’dan, killed the dreadlord Tichondrius, and took on a demonic form. The value of that victory did not erase its cost: the night elves exiled him once more.

At Kil’jaeden’s command, Illidan tried to destroy the Frozen Throne with the Eye of Sargeras. When the attempt failed, he fled to Outland. There, with Lady Vashj and Kael’thas, he overthrew Magtheridon. He later returned to Northrend, only to lose to Arthas at the foot of Icecrown.

Illidan’s tragedy was not a lack of resolve, but his conviction that any means could be justified by the end. He often recognized a threat before others did, yet almost never believed he owed anyone an explanation.
